Cow beauty pageants are mother’s milk to Switzerland, where alpine villages have been holding such events for more than a century. Here in the Saanenland, various events will be held the week of 24 October, known as "Cow Show Week".

The Saanenland's own Marco Paroni walked away with the gold medal at this year's Swiss Regional Products Competition. Paroni's mountain honey, which comes from three apiculture sites in Saanen, beat out several dozen competitors for the award.

Winter has arrived--the Saanenland had several big snowstorms this week. Although temperatures were above freezing most days, the nights dipped down to a very cold -18 C. Approximately 20 cm of snow still stands.
Bergbahnen Destination Gstaad AG (BDG) moved into its new offices in the newly built valley station of the Bergbahn Eggli at Easter. The multifunctional building fits beautifully into the landscape while featuring a markedly contemporary design.
