Tom Walter named new head chef at The Mansard
18.07.2025 Local News, GastronomyAs of 1 July 2025, Tom Walter takes over as Head Chef at The Mansard in Gstaad. At just 25 years old, he is one of the youngest head chefs in Switzerland.
Walter trained at Restaurant Stucki in Basel under renowned chef Tanja Grandits and earned recognition as Switzerland’s “Best Commis” in the 2021 Goldener Koch competition. He also gained experience through internships at Restaurant Schwarzenstein, under the guidance of Nils Henkel, and at the Grand Hyatt in Hong Kong.
A native of Aargau, Walter completed his apprenticeship at Restaurant Kettenbrücke in Aarau, where he graduated with top honours. He has also been part of the Swiss national culinary team and was a finalist in several national competitions. This marks his first leadership role in a kitchen. In parallel, he is currently completing a degree in business administration in Zurich. At The Mansard, he joins a youthful team including Saanen native Yasmin Gerber, who leads the service staff.
