The Mansard Hotel, Promises Luxe and Views to Match

Expectations are high as we put on our hard hats; if the architectural renderings are anything to go by, Gstaad’s new boutique hotel will hit the sweet spot. Michel Wichman kindly invited us for a look behind the scenes – at the construction site that will be The Mansard three months from now.

As he guides us around lianas of cables hanging down from the ceiling workmen are expertly fixing the last panels, Michel utters, “I do not really care much for stars, but we have spent money wisely on elements that will last and are of quality.” The architects have certainly done their fair share, as the space planning is brilliant. The restaurant faces the Promenade and it corners into a cosy lounge with a fireplace and a full-length bar. With a capacity of seating 120 people, I foresee a serious party vibe when the summer events kick off. The rooms are generously spaced and a meticulous attention to detail provides exceptional value for your money. The tower suite, nestled under the mansard roof, is especially remarkable. The open staircase at the centre of the hotel lets light into the heart of the building and leads you upwards to the piece de resistance: the rooftop terrace called the VANE. Much has been said of this feature, but based on our "inspection": I think the end result will surpass the renderings. An incredible 360 ° view of Gstaad and surrounding mountains will be the backdrop for both luncheon and evening guests. How spoiled are we?

Official opening 18 May. See more online.
