Quartet instruments and bows under the hammer

An Online Only sale dedicated to jewellery and watches for Valentine’s Day has just ended at Piguet Hôtel des Ventes, with 100% of lots sold. The Geneva auction house will continue its 2024 series of sales at the beginning of March, with a special focus on the skills of master luthiers and bow makers.

In 2023, director and auctioneer, Claire Piguet, created a department dedicated entirely to bows, scores, musical instruments and in particular, quartets.

“As a musician, I’ve always been a great admirer of the luthiers’ work in creating instruments whose curves, shapes and strings produce sounds suited to each artist’s repertoire. The market for violins, cellos and bows is constantly evolving. By working with top experts such as Pierre Guillaume (bow maker in Brussels) and Roland Baumgartner (luthier in Basel), our company enables collectors to find a solution for selling their instruments and bows in Switzerland”.

Piguet Hôtel des Ventes, already a partner of the Gstaad New Year Festival, is presenting 90 lots for musicians and music lovers, with estimates ranging from CHF 500 to CHF 150 000.
