Gstaad's Wispile mountain will offer additional operating days this winter, including periods when skiing is not possible, as the resort adapts to changing visitor demand and the introduction of the Magic Pass.
Visitors to Gstaad will have more opportunities to enjoy the Wispile this winter, after Zückerli–Wispile AG decided to extend its seasonal operations.
According to the Anzeiger von Saanen, the mountain railway will operate throughout the Christmas and New Year holiday period. From 4 January until 28 February 2027, it is scheduled to run from Thursday to Sunday.
Importantly, the new operating arrangements will not depend entirely on skiing conditions. The mountain will also welcome visitors when there is insufficient snow for skiing, reflecting the growing importance of winter activities beyond the pistes.
The company's management says the introduction of the Magic Pass has been a significant factor in the decision.
For residents and returning visitors, the extended schedule offers greater flexibility to enjoy one of Gstaad's best-known local mountains during the winter months.
The company is also taking steps to extend the lifespan of its ageing lift infrastructure. Although the current operating licence remains valid until 2049, concerns remain about the future availability of spare parts. Technical director Hauswirth is therefore already encouraging the purchase of second-hand replacement components to keep the lift operational for as long as possible.
Meanwhile, efforts to optimise snowmaking and piste preparation continue, and initial discussions about eventually replacing the Wispile lift have also begun.
For now, the expanded winter timetable marks a step towards making Wispile accessible to a broader range of visitors, regardless of snow conditions.
