THE MOUNTAIN by Sterling Ruby

18.07.2025 Arts & Culture, Gallery & Exhibitions, Arts & Culture

Sterling Ruby returns to Gstaad with The Mountain, an ambitious new exhibition that extends from Gagosian’s gallery into the alpine landscape itself. Rooted in Ruby’s observations of the Eastern Sierras, the show merges myth, ecology, and autobiography through sculpture, ceramic, and mixed-media painting. A monolithic burl sculpture weeps molten bronze, cast flowers cling to their gating, and canoe-shaped ceramics echo ancient rites of passage. Ruby’s tactile works trace the cycles of growth and decay, blending the rawness of nature with references to Surrealism, Arte Povera, and American craft traditions. Installed within and beyond the gallery walls from July to September, the exhibition transforms Gstaad into a site of poetic inquiry, where conifers, candles, and cast-off memories serve as guideposts in an ever-turning natural world.

11 July–7 September
