The Madora medical centre in Gstaad, previously part of the Medaxo Group, has been operated by the Espace Health Group since mid-November. A recent advertisement has also revealed changes to the medical team.
The well-known Madora practice in Gstaad has been acquired by new ownership. Since November 2025, the medical centre has been run by the Espace Health Group. Located next to Coop and behind Optik Gstaad, the practice was previously part of the Medaxo Group. According to a press release, Medaxo transferred several locations in Erlenbach, Gstaad, Madiswil, Muri and Wynigen to Espace Health. In Gstaad, the practice has since been operating under the name “Medic Center Gstaad”.
Thomas Mattmann, CEO of the Medaxo Group, confirmed the takeover when contacted. For further details, he referred enquiries to Dr Damian Meli, CEO of Espace Health Gesundheitszentren.
Five Practices Acquired
Damian Meli says the move is linked both to Medaxo’s strategic realignment and to Espace Health’s own growth plans. The Espace Health Group is backed in part by the health insurance provider Visana. According to Meli, the aim is to strengthen primary healthcare services. “A well-functioning GP structure can help ensure patients receive targeted care and avoid unnecessary emergency consultations for minor cases,” he explains.
The group now operates 14 GP practices across the cantons of Bern and Aargau, five of which stem from the Medaxo acquisition. In addition, the company also runs five pharmacies and other healthcare services.
New Faces in Gstaad
According to the press release, the existing practice teams were retained following the takeover. At the same time, the group is continuing to expand its Gstaad location. Meli notes that demand in tourist regions fluctuates significantly throughout the year. During peak seasons, doctors from other Espace Health locations will therefore temporarily assist in Gstaad to help maintain stable medical coverage.
“The colleagues appreciate the change of scenery, as they often combine their stay with a tourist activity,” says the CEO.
The group is also expanding the permanent team on-site. According to an advertisement published in AvS on Tuesday, 14 April, Dr Jens Rohrbeck and Dr Cristina-Alexandra Gruia have joined the practice as new physicians. Meli describes Gruia, in particular, as a young and dedicated doctor who brings “fresh energy to the Saanenland.”
