Supporting Switzerland’s first full-size outdoor Lawn Bowls Green

Gstaad Bowls Club was founded in 2007 and may be young in Swiss terms, yet it stands for one of the world’s oldest sporting traditions. Lawn has quietly but steadily taken root in Switzerland, with Gstaad at its heart.

Today, the club counts around 40 members, and eight Swiss clubs now compete under the Swiss+Bowls association, a number that continues to grow. Swiss teams already take part in international tournaments and championships, achieving encouraging results.

What has been missing until now is something very simple, and absolutely essential: a genuine, full-size outdoor Lawn Bowls Green.
That is exactly what this project aims to create!

A first for Switzerland, planned in Grund, near Gstaad
In Grund, on the site of the former schoolhouse, plans are well advanced for Switzerland’s first original-size outdoor Lawn Bowls Green. The goal is not only to give the sport a proper home, but to allow Switzerland to train, compete and host on equal terms with established bowls nations.
Just as importantly, the green will help strengthen the bowls community, welcome visiting clubs and national teams, and preserve a traditional British sport within the Alpine landscape, something the Gstaad region has always valued.

Your interest, encouragement and support for this vision are very welcome.

An ideal location with long-term potential
The chosen site in Grund offers rare and practical advantages:
• Naturally level terrain, ideal for a high-quality green with minimal construction
• A quiet, green setting just minutes from Gstaad
• Use of existing infrastructure in the former school building (changing rooms, toilets)
• Parking directly adjacent to the green The planned layout allows for up to five rinks, enabling the hosting of national and international competitions, while offering Swiss elite players the opportunity to train on an original green at home.

A national performance centre in the making

The facility is designed to serve as a national performance centre for Swiss+Bowls. Talent identification, training sessions, qualifications and international matches could finally take place in Switzerland, a milestone for both emerging and elite athletes.

Project status
The concept and layout are largely complete, with final refinements currently underway.

Financing
Research into public funding (municipal and sports funds) is well advanced. To realise the project, additional private and corporate contributions are now needed. Any level of support is welcome and greatly appreciated.

A simple way to support something lasting
Supporters are invited to contribute directly to the green itself. Each contribution of CHF 500 sponsors one square metre of the Lawn Bowls Green.

All supporters will be acknowledged on a permanent sponsor board at the facility, a visible and lasting thank-you for helping to make this project possible. Every contribution, large or small, makes a difference, and we would like to say thank you in advance for your consideration.

Become part of the green
Together, we can create a place whose impact reaches far beyond the region: sporting, cultural and social. The Gstaad Bowls Club would be delighted to realise this ambition with your support.

If this project speaks to you, your interest and help are very warmly welcomed.
