ORGANISERS WELCOME A NEW TEAM
In August, the balls will once again fly across the grass with horses in hot pursuit at the Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad, kicking off a new season. More teams are expressing interest in participating, and this year, new faces will grace the field at the Saanen airport.
The tournament will welcome a new team from the investment bank J. Safra Sarasin. As announced by the organisers, the Argentine Fanelli brothers and Horacio Fernández Llorente, led by the French captain Françoise Okala, will make their debut in Gstaad.
The Swiss brothers Fabio and Luca Meier from Gstaad Palace, who have been strong contenders in past tournaments, will be supported by Argentine brothers Adrian and Raul Laplacette. Raul Laplacette, who has won the Hublot Polo Gold Cup twice, is very familiar with the terrain, according to the organisers.
And competition will be fierce this year! Swiss captains Philipp Müller and Cedric Schweri have opted for an all-British lineup for their Kielder-Agro-Group team, including Max Charlton. Charlton, a versatile player with a handicap of 10 in arena polo, has excelled on the snow in St. Moritz and won the Westchester Cup in Wellington, USA, a high-goal match between the UK and the USA, last year.
The team of title sponsor Hublot and the German captain Jürgen Schröder, last year's finalist, will also include two Argentine brothers: Pedro and Manuel Fernández Llorente. In total, four sets of brothers will participate in this year's tournament.
The Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad will take place from August 22 to 25.
