In this final instalment of our mini tour of art galleries, we travel further along the valley to the Pays d’Enhaut. From Saanen we head towards Rougemont and turn right off the main road just before the Rougemont bypass. Following the back road down the hill, we wend our way towards the centre of the village.
Franchesca Beau Atelier Beaux Arts
Just past the central fountain square we come to Franchesca Beau’s atelier. Franchesca’s style is realism, post impressionism and expressionism, focusing on local landscapes, animals, and the occasional still life.
The main exhibition space at the front is light and airy, counterposed by “the Bazar”, a room at the back with paintings stacked around the walls, perfect for rooting around and seeing what gems you can find. The Atelier is open Wed –Sat, 14:30 – 17:00

EN HAUT
With Rougemont behind us, we now jump in a car and head towards Château-d’Oex. Peeling off the main road onto Route de la Ray, we reach a gallery with a difference. Located in the former MOB (Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway) electrical factory dating from 1904, it’s worth a visit for the exhibition space alone.
This winter ENHAUT is hosting an exhibition called ‘CAMEROUN ZOOM’. Although this ends on 19 February, there’s still time to visit.
This event aims to reflect on man’s relationship with his community and the divine, as well as to nature and heritage. Cameroon Zoom is a plea to highlight and protect Cameroon’s cultural heritage and to allow for awareness and reconnection of everyone with their own culture.

Art Kiosk
Continuing down the Rue du Village, our next stop is the Art Kiosk – a concept store and exhibition space focused on all things print. It offers fine art exhibitions, art books, magazines, rare publications, limited editions and events. Following a successful presentation of the photographs of Daido Moriyama, Art Kiosk is now offering exhibitions on the works of Abul Hisham and Markus Döbeli (the latter’s works are also being shown at The Saanen Vitrine). Marc Jancou Contemporary has organised both exhibitions.
On 18 February, art lovers can join a celebration of the shows of both artists, with walkthroughs of the exhibitions and a presentation of the gallery-published catalogue of Markus Döbeli’s work by Dieter Schwarz or a private view of the show of Abul Hisham with the artist in attendance. Both events occur at The Art Kiosk in Rougemont; the time is yet to be confirmed.

Musée du Pays-d’Enhaut
Next, we join the Grand Rue and head towards the centre of Château-d’Oex, stopping at the Musée du Pays-d’Enhaut. While not a gallery in the traditional sense, as the museum exhibits the découpage work of different artists, we include it on a technicality. And because it’s well worth a visit!
Découpage (paper cutting) is a traditional art form for the region and until 26 February the museum will be hosting its tenth exhibition of découpage called “Typically Swiss”. Featuring work from different artists that celebrates what it means to be Swiss, this is not to be missed. Tues–Sun, 13:00 –17:00.

Galerie du Temple, Arts & Antiquités
Just a few steps later we reach the Galerie du Temple, Arts & Antiquités. This wonderful antiques shop exhibits a range of framed paintings, engravings, maps and découpages, and an eclectic collection of antique, vintage and contemporary pieces reflecting the owner’s life-long love for art and interior design. If you’re someone who loves to be surprised, then this is the place for you. Open Thursday to Saturday and other times by appointment. Gallery Paltenghi
Veering off Grand Rue, we turn left and find ourselves back on Route de la Ray where we reach the Gallery Paltenghi. From 11 February – 25 March the gallery is hosting an exciting exhibition on JP Gouget, an artist from France.
The works of Guerino Paltenghi himself, a Swiss painter of Ticino origin who has lived in the Pays-d’Enhaut for half a century, are currently on display in the Osmoz Gallery in Bulle until 19 February, but will be the subject of an exhibition in the Gallery Paltenghi in August-September. Paltenghi’s paintings – whether landscapes or still life compositions – are painted in warm tones, reminiscent of the climate of Ticino. His works celebrate the beauty and tranquillity of nature. The Gallery is open from Wed-Fri, 14:00 –18:00, Sat 14:00 – 17:00 and by appointment.

Mon Jardin Secret
Continuing along Route de la Ray, we jink right to regain Grand Rue and double back a little to reach Mon Jardin Secret.
Here you will find a wonderful selection of ceramics (from the Art Nouveau, Art Deco and 1950s periods, primarily from France, Germany and Switzerland), silk and cashmere scarves, and folk art exhibitions from the region. The latter includes découpage art by Pierre-André Jaggi, which is remarkable as they were created using old documents such as notarial deeds or letters from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century and works of Remo Casagranda from Saanen, who has dedicated himself to ceramics.
All works of art from Mon Jardin Secret – whether ceramic or découpage – are sold with a certificate of authenticity. Open Mon, Thu, Fri 10:00 –12:00 and 14:00 –18:30 and Sat 10:00 –12:00 and 14:00 –17:00.

Galerie d’art Najean Aristide
A mere two minutes later along Grand Rue in the direction of Château-d’Oex centre, we reach our next gallery which features the work of Najean Aristide, a painter and glass sculptor from Murano/Venice. Here you’ll find signed Murano glass artwork, handmade by Najean in his own furnace, on sale at workshop prices. All sorts of pieces are on offer including sculptures, chandeliers, fountains, furniture, interior and exterior decorations. Made to measure and fully personalised art is also available on request.
