THENCE BY DIRECT ROYAL DESCENT TO THE PRESENT DAY

Piguet is honoured to present forty-four highly sought-after royal decorations and chivalric orders which have lain dormant since the death of His Majesty King Umberto II over four decades ago. Two of forty-four are illustrated.

This pinnacle of papal honour – awarded only to Catholic heads of state and dormant since 1987 – was bestowed upon Umberto II in 1929 as royal signatory of the Lateran Treaty which recognised Vatican City as an independent state.
