Cantonal elections: Hans Schär manages re-election

  29.03.2022 Local News

The FDP Saanenland celebrated the re-election of Hans Schär in a small circle at the Bernerhof in Gstaad. The Schönrieder was confirmed for a second term with 3590 votes. "As FDP we are satisfied with the result, we have achieved our realistic goal," emphasised party president Philipp Bigler.

"I am very satisfied, we made more votes than expected," the elected was also pleased. "Compared to four years ago, the FDP Oberland has won ten percent more votes.” But the Schönrieder is also satisfied with his personal result. "In order to be elected, I had to achieve first place on our list, and I did."

Dampened joy among SVP
The mood at the SVP in the Landhaus in Saanen was somewhat dampened on Sunday evening. Although their top candidate Anne Speiser was re-elected with 4772 votes, they missed out on the targeted second seat. Basically, he was disappointed, but satisfied with his personal result, said Albert Bach. "But a good result is no use if you don't have enough party votes."

Three seats for the administrative district of Obersimmental-Saanen

With the re-election of Matthias Matti (Die Mitte, Zweisimmen) – he received 3950 votes – the Obersimmental-Saanen administrative district continues to be represented with three seats in the 160-member cantonal parliament.

Roman Gimmel misses re-election
Roman Gimmel, director of the municipal administration of Saanen since January, was elected to the cantonal parliament in autumn on behalf of the SVP Thun. On Sunday he missed re-election. With 6766 votes he had achieved a good personal result – over 800 votes more than four years ago. "Unfortunately, the second seat for Thun was lost," said Gimmel. "Due to the late succession in autumn 2021, the early end of the term in Thun and the Sigriswil quarrels, I always talked about a 50:50 chance." He said he had set himself up for two equal scenarios, both of which would have had advantages. "In the future, for example, I can concentrate fully on my task in Saanen."

Green wave in parliament
After Sunday's elections, there was some movement in the legislature, but there was no slide to the right or left. The winners are the Greens and the Green Liberals, who each gained five seats. The big loser is the SP, which lost six seats. The balance of power remains the same. The Greens are likely to have won their seats at the expense of the SP, and the gains of the glp are also likely to be at the expense of conservative or centre parties. The SVP remains the strongest party, ahead of the SP and the Greens.
