On 21 November, the Sonntagszeitung published its annual winter rating for the hotel industry in Switzerland. Swiss hotel expert Karl Wild and his team are responsible for writing and editing the report. They visited the top hotels and classified and described them according to uniform criteria, as it says in the corresponding press release. Ten hotels from the Saanenland made it into the renown ranking.

Since its opening eight years ago, Hotel Spitzhorn in Saanen has been ranked first every year. This year, Chesa Randolina in Sils Baselgia came in second and Hotel Jungfrau on the Wengernalp came in third. Hotel Kernen from Schönried just made it into the top ten in tenth place. Figuring for the first time in the winter hotel ranking is Hotel Alpenland in Lauenen, in 25th place.

Hotel Pirmin Zubriggen in Saas Almagell was awarded the best fourstar hotel. Hotel Guarda Val in Lenzerheide-Sporz follows in second place, with Hotel Walther in Pontresina in third place. Three hotels from Saanenland figure in this category: Hotel Hornberg in Saanenmöser is in twelfth place, Huus Hotel Gstaad in Saanen is in 22nd place and the boutique hotel Alpenrose in Schönried is in 24th place.

Among the five-star hotels, the Gstaad Palace makes it onto the podium. After its sixth place in the last ranking, it is in third place this year, just behind the St Moritz Kulm (second place) and the winner in the five-star category, The Chedi Andermatt. With Le Grand Bellevue Gstaad and The Alpina Gstaad in seventh and eighth place, three hotels from Saanenland rank among the top ten five-star hotels. The Ermitage in Schönried also made into the ranking, in 23rd place.
