Renovation of the Gstaad-Rütti car park

  07.05.2021 Local News

Who doesn't know them, the ski days when the whole family takes to the slopes if possible. One of the family-friendly areas is the Gstaad Ski School at the Zückerlilift. For decades, the site of the Michel family has been used as a car park for the Bergbahnen Destination Gstaad (BDG).

Despite the wooden grates introduced about 14 years ago, the site has always suffered greatly. Especially in rainy weather or when the snow melted in spring, it was not uncommon for cars to get stuck in the mud. Getting into the car with shoes full of soil and mud is not particularly pleasant.

The annual battle with the mire must come to an end – this was clear to Daniel Michel three years ago, and so he got in touch with the BDG. The focus was on the guests, who should get a clean place to park. In cooperation with the municipality and other public offices, they developed a project that received the green light last autumn.

An area of 900m2 will now be underlaid with gravel, and the seven-metre wide and most frequented lane will be covered with grass pavers capable of seeping. The wooden gratings will remain in use for the rest of the car park. This will allow rainwater to flow back into nature, as prescribed by the canton.
