Despite the cancellation of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy in 2020, the organisers are eager to contribute musical experiences this summer. “The flame of the festival will be kept burning in this way – albeit under different circumstances”, the festival management informs.
Four top-class Beethoven recitals with Sir András Schiff (piano), Sol Gabetta (violoncello) and Alexander Melnikov (piano), Patricia Kopatchinskaja (violin) and Jonas Ahoonen (piano) as well as Daniel Behle (tenor) and Jan Schultsz (piano) will bring to the fore chamber music pearls of the great jubilarian in the church of Saanen.
These concerts will be broadcast on 4, 9, 14, and 15 August via livestream on www.gstaaddigitalfestival. ch and some of them will also be broadcast on Swiss national radion and television.
In addition, as part of its Jeunes Etoiles series, the festival will enable five young up-and-coming performers to perform their programme in one of the region’s picturesque churches. The public can vote online for these five concerts of the young stars. The young artists with the best ratings will receive a follow-up invitation for the festival in 2021.
Finally, the festival will launch two musical walks, which will be performed by chamber music formations of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra at the end of August. The original ensembles of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra (e.g. Gstaad Festival Brass) will also give pop-up concerts at various public venues during the summer main season.
