Trying times

  19.06.2020 Magazine

Let us not talk about the coronavirus, but how should it be avoided? After all, the current pandemic has arguably been the most incisive worldwide event during my lifetime. It probably has for most people who had not been born to see WWII.

The consequences for Gstaad and the Saanenland this summer: no major events, a late start into the summer season and fewer international visitors. A precarious situation for our tourist destination.

Tourism and hospitality are the lifeline of the Saanenland and there is some fresh blood in the veins of two major organisations in this sector. This is the moment to introduce the two young men at the helm of Gstaad Saanenland Tourismus and the Hotelierverein (Hoteliers’ association) Gstaad-Saanenland respectively.

Flurin Riedi, managing director at Gstaad Saanenland Tourismus, and Christof Huber, president of the Hotelierverein Gstaad-Saanenland, explain in the profile interview how the tourism sector is affected, what the region can do in the current situation and what their vision for the future of the Saanenland looks like.
