BDG rents the Rütti Garage

  08.04.2020 Business

After 43 years, the Rütti Garage closes its doors in autumn due to lack of a successor, and the premises are to be rented. There were two potentially interested parties, the garage owners Peter and Hansruedi Kübli told the Anzeiger von Saanen a month ago. Now it is official: the BDG will move into the premises of the two-storey workshop and garage.

Increased efficiency thanks to centralisation
The BDG has been looking for suitable premises for some time, explains managing director Matthias In-Albon. The current situation is unsatisfactory and does not meet expectations. "We have smaller workshops at various locations. Centralisation will make us more efficient and enable us to save on materials and costs".

The roller batteries, for example, have so far been overhauled at the various locations, sometimes even outdoors, and tools and machines have been purchased or rented several times, which makes it difficult to keep an overview. "We also don't have a garage that can be entered by a truck, which in turn can be unloaded with a crane." This will change: "In the future, all the roller batteries and the entire fleet of vehicles, the ATVs and the skidoos, can be overhauled in the workshop in the Rütti, where the right material will be available".

With only one location, a central, modern warehouse management for spare parts, machines and electrical material will finally be possible. "Everything is delivered, picked and distributed there", says In-Albon.

Win-win situation
Landlord and tenant agree that they have found a good solution. "Renting our workshop is a win-win situation for both parties", emphasise the Kübli brothers. "The BDG can continue to use various facilities, machines and tools. We therefore do not need to clear out everything and the workshop will still be used as a workshop, which means that no major conversion work needs to be done". In-Albon agrees with that: "On the market the machines and tools probably would not bring much profit, but we can continue to use some of it very well."

BDG moves together
The location in the Rütti has another advantage: administration and operations are moving closer together. These days, the administration moves from the promenade to the new offices at the Eggli valley station. Thus, administration, cable car technology, piste rescue and snowmaking are all under one roof. "Moving together the administration and operations is the main reason for the move", explains In-Albon. The lack of parking spaces in the promenade is another major point. There are enough parking spaces for the employees at the Eggli valley station and later on at the workshop.

Solution for showrooms in sight
The showrooms on the ground floor will not be rented by the BDG. Some of them will possibly be used by the family, but this is not yet ready for decision. "We will find a solution", Küblis are optimistic.

The self-service petrol station will remain open.
