The polo tournament is the first major event in Gstaad to be cancelled due to the Corona crisis. "As organisers, we must take responsibility. In the current situation and under the existing conditions, it is impossible for us to hold the event in the best possible conditions and at the same time guarantee the safety of everyone", explains organizing committee president Pierre E. Genecand. Due to the activities at the airport in Saanen – which, Genecand emphasises, is making great efforts year after year to ensure that the Hublot Polo Gold Cup Gstaad can take place – it is unfortunately not possible to postpone the tournament. "It is therefore with great regret that we see ourselves forced to cancel the tournament," said those responsible.

Following discussions with the Swiss Polo Association and the support of title sponsor Hublot as well as the long-standing partners, such as the municipality of Saanen, everyone agreed that the cancellation was the best and only option for this year's tournament. "The duration of this unprecedented pandemic is unpredictable, so the organising committee had to make an operational decision to protect all visitors and partners now and in the future," the press release states.
