Air-Glaciers and Air Zermatt team up

Mon, 16. Mar. 2020

The two Valaisan airlines Air-Glaciers and Air Zermatt have decided to work closely together in future.

According to the media release, both companies will retain their own board of directors and their own supervisors. They will also continue to compete in the market, but use synergies. According to Bruno Bagnoud, co-founder and head of Air-Glaciers, his company currently employs 160 people, with bases in Sion, Lauterbrunnen, Gstaad-Saanenland, Gampel, Collombey, La-Chaux-de-Fonds and Leysin. The company possesses 15 helicopters and several aircraft.

When asked by a regional newspaper what could be said about the future of the Saanen base, Philipp Perren, chairman of the board of directors of Air Zermatt AG - and probably soon of Air-Glaciers AG as well - said that this could be a sticking point. In Saanen, Air-Glaciers' rescue helicopter has been an issue for years - the Rega base in Zweisimmen is only four minutes' flight away. So it would be worth seriously considering whether it made sense to carry out rescue flights from Saanen.
