A preference for animal products from Switzerland

  10.12.2019 Business

Consumers in Switzerland are looking for the "Swiss" label when they go shopping, especially when it comes to animal products. Three quarters of respondents always or almost always prefer eggs from local production. The same goes for meat as well as milk and dairy products, which were preferred by more than half of the respondents.

There are various reasons for this shopping behaviour. Around a quarter of respondents want to show that they support the Swiss farmers. Respondents indicated that the environment and product quality are important to them, with around 15 per cent in each case.

These and other outcomes are the result of an online survey carried out by the Demoscope research institute in January 2019 on behalf of the Federal Office for Agriculture. A total of 1006 people participated in the survey. The aim of this survey was to learn more about consumer behaviour when choosing and buying food.
