Despite earlier financial difficulties, the festival has grown to 70 000 to 100 000 guests due to a growing international profile. This is particularly evident in the fact that in 2015 organizers received almost 3000 films for consideration.

Having noted a sharp increase in films from South America in recent years, “Gstaad Film” will focus on this continent at the next festival. While Brazil and Argentina host well-known film festivals, Uruguay is a newcomer on the scene. Montevideo, according to co-director Matt Rome, is an excellent choice with both interested locals and a growing tourist base.
