BDG Extends Summer Season

  31.03.2017 Gstaad Living

While this extension may pose a financial risk, the company’s goal for the future is clear. According to officials, the company is providing a public service by extending summer hours. Additionally, providing a consistent summer offer to guests and keeping the region attractive is important.

“Actually, we wanted to work together with the hoteliers for the summer to find a way for an all-season offer for hotel guests,” says Heinz Brand, Chairman of the Board, BDG.

The company suggests a doubling of the tourist tax to offset the high deficits generated in the summer season. In 2016, for example, they ended the season CHF 2.2 million short.  They are hoping that can be resolved either through public funds or support from the private sector.

Other lifts are not as lucky as the Rellerli and Wispile. For the moment, Schönried-Horneggli will remain closed—at least for this summer season. Its summer frequency is relatively low with only an average of 80 people per day using the chairlift.
