I take this opportunity to look back on an eventful period and, at the same time bid myfarewell to you all.As in every community the well-being of the population is at the center of the actions of the authorities. The highest priority is the development of housing for local people in an advantageous environment. The planning of such, now published publicly, will create attractive housing opportunities for local people. Further the council should inaugurate a multi-purpose gymnasium and realize ongoing significant investments in community infrastructure.

The main challenge is always and remains our special economic confederations. Tourism, for its blessings and evils, is an engine for local commerce, hotels and services, and even for the good of our farming; a main focus is directed at this point. The negotiation of the merger of the different mountain cable car companies into the Bergbahnen Destination Gstaad AG left its mark on my first presidential legislature. The electorate approved in this instance two significant investment packages, so that we will be recognized in the forthcoming years in the top ten of Switzerland’s winter destinations. With a big effort and united forces we have saved the tennis tournament. Through subsidies and investments in other events, we have further made Saanenland attractive as an alpine summer destination. Internal administration has driven revision of the community structure to create the function of Director of Administration. This will enable my successor to administrate the community departmentally.

Allow me to thank you all warmly as I enter my retirement from public service. You trusted me as president and supported me in my efforts. My commitment was to give my best to the community of Saanen. Many things worked out, a few didn’t. One might point to some of the mistakes I made. They were never made consciously. I thank my local council colleagues, all the members of the authorities, as well as the members of the community administration, who kept the machinery working. It is due to your efforts that it was possible to keep the community ship on course. And you, dear fellow citizens, I thank you with all my heart for the pleasant collaboration. I wish you a a Happy New Year for 2009.
