How the Transafrican rally car got back to Gstaad

  13.12.2006 Lifestyle

Many of you would have followed their exploits daily here on this website, but what you may be wondering is how did the car get back to Gstaad? Well, over the past three weeks since the end of the rally, Peter and Brigitte Pretsch have been quietly enjoying their own Transafricaine Rally from Dakar back to Gstaad. Peter is Brand's brother-in-law, and the couple joined Brand and de Sadeleer on the shores of Lake Rose in Dakar for the end of the rally. Having spent the best part of a couple days negotiating insurances and rights of passage, the Pretschs have been enjoying the trip of lifetime, driving the orange be-sponsored Land Rover back through Mauritania, Morocco, Spain, and France.

They return with tales of having driven the best conversational ice-breaker on four-wheels, and their new found friends along the way included all manner of border guards, police officers, and locals who don't normally get to a chance to see a Paris-Dakar rally car up close and personal. The car itself will find its way in front of the Grand Hotel Bellevue on Friday afternoon from 17h00 for those of you who didn't get a chance to check it out during the Promenade apéro back in October.
