GstaadLife recommends...
07.07.2006 ArchivIt's the weekend, the weather is fine, and you've walked around Arnensee and Lauenensee twice already this season. May we recommend taking the cable car up to Sanetsch. About 15 minutes drive from Gstaad just beyond Gsteig, Lac du Sanetsch is at a higher altitude than our other area lakes. An 8-person cable car ferries you up from Gsteig, but be warned that on busy days you may have to wait a while. Once up, the Restaurant du Barrage serves up a limited but well-executed Berghaus-style menu on a super terrace overlooking the lake...
If you want to beat the crowds and avoid fighting for prime tables, call ahead (033.755 12 32) and reserve for inside, where the ambiance is a touch more elegant. After your meal (try the sublime escargot entree), follow the "Tour du Lac" signs over the dam and around the lake. It will take about an hour with a few tricky stony parts (not suitable for pushchairs), and will afford fantastic views of the snowcaps at the back of the Glacier, spectacular waterfalls, and wonderful alpine flora.
