A sunny Golf & Yachting Day

  23.08.2022 Sports & Leisure

The annual GYC Interclub Golf & Yachting took place for the sixth time in glorious weather. This year's winners are Franz Wehren and John Gogol.

Early on the sunny morning of 22 July 2022, golfers and yachtsmen gathered at the Gstaad-Saanenland golf course to participate in the sixth edition of the GYC Golf & Yachting. The classic summer event was superbly organised by the Gstaad Yacht Club in collaboration with the Gstaad-Saanenland Golf Club and Alpinezentrum.

After coffee and croissants and a short training session on the driving range, the two teams started at 9.30 am. The following four and a half hours were entirely devoted to friendly golf, which is well on its way to becoming an interclub competition with various players from other golf courses outside Saanenland.

The event was heralded with the flyover of the PC7 aircraft, which performed their acrobatic manoeuvres in preparation for the air show for the tennis final, much to the delight of the players.

Strong breeze on the Hornberg
The sun shone throughout the afternoon, so nothing got in the way of the sailors' excursion to Lake Hornberg. After refreshments offered by Martin Bieri, the Americas Cup model boats were waiting for the skippers. Some experimented more than others, and the competition was fierce but passionate. A strong, steady breeze propelled the boats across the lake, which was dedicated exclusively to the GYC event. The winning team of the sixth GYC Interclub Golf & Yachting are Franz Wehren (GYC – Gstaad Yacht Club) and John Gogol (YCM - Yacht Club de Monaco). The golfing score combined with their impeccable sailing performance, earned them the honour of having their names engraved on the challenge cup.

The GYC would like to thank all its partners for their participation and support in this unique event in Gstaad and the exquisite prizes presented at the winners ceremony at the GYC clubhouse in the evening.

Bronze medal for GYC member
On Sunday, July 17, the Drheam-Cup, launched in 2016, celebrated its fourth edition this year, offering three different courses between Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and La Trinitésur-Mer. One hundred twenty-eight boats participated, divided into ten categories, and fought for victory over 600 nautical miles. The race has strengthened its position as a major offshore race in the format of the Fastnet Race, the Sydney-Hobart or the Middle Sea Race. The Drheam Cup has become a qualifying race for the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe.

Simon Koster, a member of the GYC, took part in this fourth edition of the Dhream Cup. After his successful participation in the Transat Jacques Fabres, where he finished second in this significant competition, Koster did it again. He finished in third place in the single-handed race with his SUI 159 – Class40 “Banque du Leman”, with a time of four days, four hours and 37 minutes.

Rehearsal for the Route du Rhum
“It will be exciting,” said Simon Koster before the race. “It is the dress rehearsal for the Route du Rhum, which is just around the corner. This regatta is an excellent test to sus out the level of the competition, as the field of participants should be fiercely competitive.

I want to sail aggressively and get as good a result as possible”, says Koster. The GYC congratulates Simon Koster, competing in the regatta for the first time, and the Roesti Sailing Team for this remarkable achievement for Swiss sailing.
