New year music festival returns with 16th edition

  21.12.2021 Arts & Culture

After the New Year Music Festival had to be cancelled last year, it returns with a stunning set of artists between 27 December 2021 and
9 January 2022.

One of the marvelous aspects of the New Year Music Festival is that you don’t have to travel far to enjoy first-class music. Venues range from the local churches in Rougemont, Lauenen, Saanen, and Gstaad as well as the Park Gstaad, Le Grand Bellevue, and the Gstaad Yacht Club. The programme over the two-week period is packed and as varied as the locations.

The opening concert will take place in the Rougemont Church with the American-born soprano Angel Blue and Natalia Morozova from Russia at the piano for a festive evening. This will be followed by the Opening Gala of the Festival in Lauenen with Il Giardino d’Amore, directed by Stefan Plewniak on the violin. The ensemble, whose name means Garden of Love, found its inspiration in the philosophy of the orchestra members, to gather in the circle of friends, to share music with the feeling of deep, joyful and expressive sensitivity.

They will share the evening with mezzo-soprano Adèle Charvet, a graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, who made her stage debut in 2017 with the Dutch National Opera in Borodin's Le Prince Igor.

Overall, the festival presents a variety of musical styles with performances by artists at the very top of their game as well as promising newcomers, amongst whom are likes of Parker Ramsay (harp), Willard Carter (cello) and Nadine Sierra (soprano).

The New Year Music Festival will come to a close with a special Voice Project feature, a reading of letters by Flaubert, Piaf, Van Gogh, Léger, Rimbaud, Berlioz, Saint-Exupéry and Picabia.
