Decision over Medical Center Stirs Discussion

Medical Center – What a Shame!

Unfortunately, as a local resident of Gstaad, I was unable to attend the municipal assembly of 15 April. However, I would like to express my indignation about the way and the timing that this referendum took place. After all, we desperately need to keep this new, modern Medical Center, which provides superb service, care and professionalism. I just find it outrageous to time this assembly when most local residents are away on holiday.

I see no reason why the local doctors made such a fuss when the Medical Center is no competition to them as they are already well established and have their regulars. We certainly need to encourage our foreign and Swiss guests to visit the Saanenland, especially when the financial situation is not rosy at this present moment. Not very encouraging without any medical facilities…

It is a well-known fact that the traditional GPs will no longer exist in the near future and therefore there will be no successor when today’s doctors will be retiring. Let us look five years ahead and give the new Medical Center a chance to gain a foothold. I personally wish them success. Any new venture takes a few years to establish confidence in the local community and the original idea was to relieve the pressure from the local doctors.

Thanks to the Day Clinic with its competent and devoted team led by Dr. Katharina Beyer, several families already had good experiences, my family too. I myself just came out of hospital. I had to undergo a major back surgery after having been well advised by the very competent doctors at the Medical Center. I thank them!

I hope anyone reading this letter will find a way of supporting the fund raising efforts, which are still very much needed.

Jeanette de Vigier, Gstaad
