How the Titanic brought Le Rosey to Gstaad

  17.04.2007 Sports & Leisure

Rather than a chronological continuation of the first volume, von Siebenthal’s second book will enrich the story of Gstaad with new detail. In many ways, von Siebenthal’s second book is fruit borne of his first one. Many readers sent him photos and stories and the new book on Gstaad's past will be filled with such tales. One particularly interesting person who got in touch with him was the great niece of the first Oldenhorn hoteliers. She reveals interesting new details on the mysterious fire on the Oberbort. He also met the great grandson of the founder of Institut Le Rosey, one Mr Carnal, who revealed how the choice of Gstaad as the winter location for Le Rosey is connected to the tragic sinking of the Titanic.

Such tales appear alongside such modern classics as the story of the Gstaad bypass (topical given the recent community hick-hack over the Saanen bypass), and there is a philosophical section on Gstaad’s future. Unfortunately the second book is only available in German, although there are summaries in French and English. The vernissage is planned for the middle of September, after which books can be ordered and collected directly from the von Siebenthal store on the Promenade.
