Clear Yes to the Covid Law and the Care Initiative

  30.11.2021 Local News

The referendum campaign on the Covid law was very intense. At 62 per cent, the yes vote was even slightly higher than in the June 2021 referendum (60.2 per cent). And Appenzell Innerrhoden and Schwyz were the only cantons to reject the law.

The fact that the sovereign was able to vote on the legal basis of the Confederation's Corona policy for the second time in six months shows that democracy works, said Health Minister Alain Berset on Swiss television. The high turnout was also a clear indication of how much people in Switzerland were affected by the issue, he said.

The care initiative was also clearly accepted in 22.5 cantons and with a 61 per cent yes vote. Only the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden rejected the initiative.

The result for the justice initiative was even clearer: All cantons and 68.1 per cent of voters rejected the popular initiative.

Five out of seven municipalities reject the Covid law
As expected, the Covid law was rejected in the administrative district of Obersimmental-Saanen, but by a narrow margin of 52.8 per cent. The referendum was most clearly rejected in the municipality of Lauenen with 69.1 per cent. In Saanen, the No vote was 50.5 per cent. In Zweisimmen and Lenk, however, the law was accepted.

Saanen is the only municipality to reject the care initiative
In six out of seven municipalities in the Obersimmental-Saanen administrative district, the care initiative was accepted, most clearly in Zweisimmen with 57.7 per cent. Saanen narrowly rejected the initiative with 50.1 per cent. Overall, 53.7 per cent of the voters in our administrative district approved the popular initiative.

At 77.3 per cent, the voters in the Obersimmental-Saanen administrative district rejected the justice initiative more clearly than the Swiss average.

High voter turnout
