The planned holiday resort on the Saanerslochbahn car park comprises a car park and a hotel project. As part of the project, MOB is planning to convert the existing three tracks to a double track and extend the platform to 220 metres. The replacement of the Saanersloch cable car has already been completed. The valley station was intentionally put on the level of the resort and also with a possible relocation of the station. This would allow direct access from the train to the ski slopes.

The biggest challenge is the access, which should be equally possible on foot, by bike, car or train. The most feasible option is a bridge over the Kleine Simme. Just under three years after the information event, where this ideas was presented, the municipal council has approved the structure plan and submitted it to the cantonal authorities. The response is expected by the end of November.

Added value for the destination
The whole project hinges on the access and traffic planning, says Flurin Riedi, director of tourism. The bridge is part of an overall project, whih represents a great added value for the destination, he believes. The complexity of the project also highlights the various needs that need to be reconciled. It was therefore a big step forward that the structure plan is now available.

"In terms of tourism, we are talking about a hub, a centre where everything comes together," Riedi says. The concentration makes sense. "It is all about convenience for the guest and it is about the future, about the next 10, 20, 30 years." The current situation is not satisfactory. Riedi deems it therefore very positive that a holistic approach is now being pursued.

The BDG also supports the project, as managing director Matthias In-Albon says. From the guest's point of view, the access via the bridge and the connection of the Saanerslochbahn valley station to the MOB is actually a must and a relief for the residents in the village. Nevertheless, he stresses that the discussion about parking spaces is not over yet. "More parking spaces are needed and an overflow car park for the peak days," says In-Albon.
