On Saturday, 4 July a hiker fell below the Giferspitz. The 72-year-old from the Canton of Bern died on the scene of the accident, despite first aid from other hikers.

The accident was reported to the Bern Cantonal Police on Saturday, 4 July 2020 shortly after 10.40am. The man was hiking with a group on a mountain trail in the Turbach area when, on his way up to the Giferspitz, he fell for reasons yet to be clarified and fell down about 50 metres over a rubble field.

The Bern Cantonal Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
