Award for the 2019 Gstaad Swiss O Week

  15.11.2019 Local News

The Swiss O Week attracted 2,700 orienteers from 32 nations to Saanenland last August, bringing many long-term benefits.

At the end of October, Swiss Orienteering announced the presentation of an “Orienteering tree” to the organising committee at the next delegates' meeting for their role in running the 2019 Gstaad Swiss Orienteering Week.

Swiss Orienteering, the Swiss Association for Orienteering, has been awarding "Orienteering Trees" since 2009 to thank individuals and organisations for making an outstanding contribution to the sport in Switzerland.

The Association’s central board is convinced that the smooth running of the Swiss O Week in Gstaad deserves this award. Presenting a tree is a thank you to the Saanenland organisers for developing new orienteering areas in the Bernese Oberland. As president Marcel Schiess said in the run-up to this event with international renown, Gstaad previously was like a blank slate as far as orienteering is concerned.

The tree is a particularly long-term symbol of appreciation for the commitment given by the organising committee members and the 440 volunteers involved in the event. The organisers are able to choose the species of tree and have already decided to plant it in the Saanenland.
