The inauguration celebration of the new pavilion of the catholic church in Gstaad is this Sunday July 4 at 10h00. The tent is up, and the oversized umbrellas bedeck the garden for the reception, and the copper on the new tower is very, very shiny. But we think the design of the pavilion is pretty awful: One of Gstaad's finest old trees had to go for this completely-out-of-place concrosity. What do you think? Click comments below.

 
Switzerland decides on November 29 whether or not the construction of minarets in Switzerland should be permitted. This hot topic has now reached Saanenland where most parties are against the motion of the initiation comitee who want to include the sentence "The construction of minarets is forbidden" in the federal constitution. SFr 3,8 million were allocated to the renovation of the catholic church in Gstaad and we could hardly believe our eyes when we saw what they're actually going to spend the money on. Isn't this just ghastly? Don't they have rules against this kind of thing? The inside of the church also gets a makeover, with new colors (well apparently they are going to use the colors intended by the original architect -see picture below). The inside is due to be finished for advent this year and the outhouse is to be inaugurated on July 4 2010.
