Tourism in Gstaad Grows

  18.05.2018 Local News

There was some concern that core European markets would suffer this past winter, yet at the annual general meeting of Gstaad Saanenland Tourism, an increase of 3 per cent was noted. The national makeup of Gstaad-area guests was clear in the overnight stay increase, with North Americans increasing by 16 per cent, Germans by 12 per cent, and France by 7 per cent. Other increased representation included guests from Switzerland and the Benelux.

For the first time in ten years, the Bergbahnen Destination Gstaad, BDG, is on an upward trend. Last winter’s volume increased by approximately 18 per cent, breaking the recent years’ downtrend. Winter subscriptions for the ski pass Top4 totalled 37000, exceeding expectations.

The company believes this is due to recent investments and new attractions. The extension of offers at the sports centre, at Snowpark Gstaad, the piste at Saanerslochgrat, and new runs at St. Stefan, La Videmanette, and Schönried, as well as one new toboggan run at Horneggli, were worth it. A very special experience also awaits guests on the Hornberg, where the highest wakeboard and waterski facility in Europe is in operation.

Positive developments in store for the summer season are its extension from May to October. Other improvements include more big events, sports events like tennis and beach volleyball and the Tour de Suisse, as well as cultural ones like the Menuhin.
