Saanen Landschaft Museum Needs Boost

  01.06.2017 Arts & Culture

The museum did have a successful winter 2016 season, which featured an exhibition of Gstaader photographer Jacques Nägeli. The permanent bell exhibition “Passion”, which opened in February, was well-attended. According to records, 2016 showed an increase in visitors as compared to the previous year, 2015.  Still, the museum counts an average of ten visitors a day—it was open 208 days last year, with a total of 2143 visitors. On 27 days however, the museum received no visitors at all.

To boost attendance, marketing materials like new flyers and internet presence have been redesigned. Front office staff from local hotels have also been invited, as a way to recommend the museum to guests as an option in inclement weather.

The Saanenland Hotel Association, which is also a member of the board, thinks the museum could benefit for longer opening hours in the autumn and spring. However the management board questions whether this would be worthwhile for the museum.

Highlights for the museum in the coming year will include the publication of a new bell book entitled “Passion Bells”. The board hopes the book will sell out and book coordinator Hanspeter Grundisch has planned a vernissage for December 2017.

In other annual general meeting news, Stefan Jaggi has been re-elected as president for another year, after which time a successor will be chosen.
