At the event, Heinz Brand, president of the commission, made a splash by jumping into the pool, stating “With that leap I said goodbye to the old pool and look forward to the new one in the future.”

On 2 April the doors of the indoor swimming pool will close and remain so for the rest of the year. After renovation, the indoor pool will be surrounded by a new children's paddling pool and waterslide, and the outdoor swimming pool will also be available for use year-round. Additionally, the wellness and fitness area of the Sportzentrzum will be expanded.

A grand reopening is planned for 16 December 2017.
