Maternité Alpine is made up of a group of dedicated medical professionals who had the idea to create a community-based birthing centre for the Saanenland and the Simmental. With the closure of both Saanen Hospital and the maternity ward at Zweisimmen Hospital, women were expected to make the long drive to Thun for medical assistance with childbirth.
