Yehudi Menuhin remembered 10 years on
Here in Gstaad we can hardly believe that it is already 10 years since Sir Yehudi Menuhin died on March 12 1999. With his Menuhin Festival, with other classical music concerts all year round his spirit seems to be omnipresent. People in Saanenland are still able to experience the extensive works of their honorary citizen, his empathy as a humanitarian and philanthropist, and the intellect of this cosmopolitan philosopher. In 1977 he founded the International Menuhin Music Academy, IMMA, and with the Camerata Lysy Gstaad the name of our region was carried throughout the world. The successful academy for talented string musicians of many countries is now under the direction of his son Jeremy Menuhin who seeks to carry forward his father's legacy of music in the mountains.

Why never a word about the Bauchau's who were such great friends and who supported the festival.
Those of us who attended Montesano remember how the school became a sanctuary for musicians each summer and the thrill of knowing that as soon as we left for the 4 corners of the earth, our chalets would truly be filled with the sound of music !
