Geneva reverses smoking ban...Gstaad goes non-smoking in June
These two young ladies from Havana are still allowed to puff their cigars in public. And so is everyone in Geneva again. Yes, after 80% of the population last year voted in favor of a ban on smoking in restaurants, the federal court in Lausanne last week ruled the ban null and void on legal procedural grounds. Oddly enough the next day the canton of Zurich passed its own ban on smoking in public endroits, passing a law similar to the one that will come into effect here in canton Bern and Gstaad next year (see Lights out for smokers in Gstaad)...assuming that ban is not challenged and overturned. So in summary: you can smoke in Geneva, but not in Ticino or Zurich, Gstaad is ok for now, but not after next June, and Rougemont currently has no plans to ban smoking. And you wonder why hoteliers and restaurant owners are calling for a federal law...
