Saanen car park vote delayed
The Gemeinde has decided to postpone voting on the new underground car park planned for Saanen. The delay, which follows recent debate on the project’s lofty price tag, concerns the "Flüeli" real estate development on the von Grünigen Matte field where several chalets are due to be built (click here for more details on the project). The construction project including the new car park was submitted to cantonal officials for a final revision last week. Several issues were raised regarding construction density and the aesthetic impact on the village. Since Saanen is a village of national and historical importance, the Flüeli project will be subject to stringent guidelines, and consequently needs to be reworked. Since the Gemeinde views the underground car park as a part of the whole redevelopment, it has decided to wait. Officials maintain they will not alter the scope of the parking in the meantime.
Above: the Flüeli project which includes construction of the new underground car park will be situated on the land between Gstaadstrasse and Spitalstrasse.
