Military proving grounds
Olivet, France
This morning at 09h35 saw Stan de Sadeleer and Hansueli Brand begin their first real test in the Transafricaine Classic Rally. On paper today's 10-hour run from Olivet near Orléans to Narbonne on the south coast is not that tough, but the first section of the run traces a path through the military proving grounds at Olivet ie the place where the French army tests tanks and simulates war. In a text message to GstaadLife.com this morning looking out over the course just minutes before the start, de Sadeleer had only these words to say:
Notre départ de spécial est à 9h35. Terrain très gras et beaucoup d'eau. La moyenne a été diminuée.
We'll have an update on their progress through the mud and water later today.

Erste Etappe in der Militäranlage
Heute Morgen um 09.35 beginnen de Sadeleer und Brand ihre erste richtigen Etappe in der Transafricaine Rallye. Auf der Karte sieht die heutige Strecke von Olivet bei Orléans nach Narbonne nicht sehr anspruchsvoll aus, doch der erste Abschnitt führt durch die Militäranlage von Olivet. Dort testet die französische Armee ihre Panzer und simuliert Kriegssituationen. Man kann also gespannt sein, was das Gstaader Team dort erwartet.
