New law regarding construction noise
As part of the recently published re-zoning plan for Saanenland, a new building law governing construction noise is to be introduced. This new law states that noise created by heavy construction (eg drilling, jackhammering, blasting, etc) will not be permitted between December 20 and March 15 and from July 1 to September 15. Interior work will be permitted. “It is a merciful solution,” said Christa Kunz, local council member. “There are some tourism areas that have a total construction moratorium during their summer and winter seasons,” declared Gemeinde president Andreas Hurni. One can only hope that the construction companies will actually obey this law, lest you are forced to make another trip across the road in your slippers to tell those earlybird cement mixers that cement mixes better after 07h00! Alas with all the process involved in ratifying the new law, it won't be until summer 2008 at the earliest that it can come into force...which should be make for an interesting summer 2007.
